Communications

Phase IV Systems has developed various communication links to meet demanding customer requirements. These links comprise many different applications including strategic interceptors, tactical missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, robotic platforms, and test range telemetry systems.

Phase IV developed an RF communications/guidance link utilizing a missile transceiver pod and ground-based track radar. The pod was developed in our microelectronics laboratory in order to achieve the stringent size and form factor requirements.

Phase IV Systems developed a radar interface unit for early-phase testing of a strategic interceptor. This unit utilized target and interceptor measurements supplied by test range assets in conjunction with the systems BMC3I to uplink guidance commands to the interceptor and receive telemetry data.

Phase IV Systems redesigned obsolete message processing hardware to replace expensive custom interfaces with commercial-off-the-shelf components. A new node synchronization mechanism was designed to establish frame boundaries in the TDMA network, virtually eliminating node synchronization problems encountered with the original design.

A communications link was developed by Phase IV Systems to implement a remotely piloted helicopter target control system. The system provided uplink flight commands to the unmanned helicopter and received video/audio/telemetry inputs for the ground-based operator.
